Justin Hawkins: Quits The Darkness, Spent $300,000 On Cocaine

Justin Hawkins leaving the darkness

In the world of completely unsurprising news, The Darkness lead singer Justin Hawkins has just admitted he is addicted to alcohol and cocaine. The One Way Ticket To Hell And Back singer told The Sun that he has spent over $300,000 on coke the last few years as well as an unquantifiable amount on alcohol.

But what is completely surprising: The British rock star is quitting his band! The Darkness burst onto the scene three years ago with Permission To Land, an album that topped British charts. Their second album, One Way Ticket to Hell and Back, begins with the sound of somebody sucking a line of coke up their nose. Hawkins is known for his leopard tights, rail-thin body and high pitched scream.

On his drug addiction, Hawkins says he “regularly used to stay up for four days at a time on coke and alcohol binges. I couldn’t even tell you how much I was drinking — it was all day when we were on tour. My weapon of choice was vodka. Everything was decided on the basis that I wanted to take cocaine at some point. Indeed, what a beautiful swan song for my teenage buttrock/hair-metal days. I always loved this album from start to finish, it’s a solid chunk of highly listenable 80s metal that never fails to satisfy. . . I mean, if you are the type of person that would pay good money to see David Lee Roth perform in Vegas, remembers the first time they started appreciating Ratt, or feels sincere lament upon having heard of the Darkness going splitsville.
