V.V. Brown wrote a few songs on her debut album, Traveling Like The Light, about her break up with "one particular arsehole". It's hard to imagine anyone being an arsehole to the lively and lovely V.V., but it did happen and out of the ashes came her wonderful music.
We talked to V.V. about her songs, her nicknames, and causing a little trouble. Have a look.
Vampire Weekend singer Ezra Koenig has in the past mentioned his affection for the old Bay Area ska band Operation Ivy. Recently, on a British radio show V.W. was asked to play a cover of any song they chose, and Ruby Soho by Rancid was their choice. Rancid of course is the band that came from the disintegration of Op Ivy. Have a listen to the Vamps version:
I cranked up the radio the other day when, to my surprise, 'The Dirty Heads ft. Rome' song Lay Me Down suddenly came on. It was pretty cool since I just read a thank you letter from singer Jared saying "This is a huuuuuuuuuge thanks to everyone out there, taking time, and going out of their way to request DH at KROQ, and you're local radio stations."
The band just released some pro shot live footage of the track. Check it out.
The latest music video from Bay Area alternative rock artists AFI has been released. Beautiful Thieves features the band performing in a house owned by "a crazy woman with a bunch of horses," as guitarist Jade exclusively told us. Check out the video and then check out our convo with band right here.
Recently I heard an angel sing and her name was V.V. Brown. The angel wore the prettiest little dresses, had a lovely retro hair style, and a British accent. She also happened to be on iTunes, and featured as the free single of the week. I say go check it out, quick.
In 1996 AFI rolled through Santa Cruz, California and played a $6 show for 100 people at the Vets hall. It was my first punk show and cost me six bucks. Fourteen years later I told Jade and Hunter that story as we sat in their bus five blocks down the road from the venue they played way back when. This time through Santa Cruz they have two platinum albums under their belt and another gold doesn't look far off.
We caught up with AFI in Santa Cruz, Calif., and talked to them about their new album (Crash Love), their new music video (Beautiful Thieves), Hunter's shoes and the duality of A Fire Inside. Check it out.
Bay Area punk legend Tim Armstrong is the star of a new detective show called Svengali World. The Rancid singer plays 'The Professor', a guy whose apartment features a stunning view of the Golden Gate bridge, and has hired a hit man to murder his ex-girlfriend by ripping out her heart and shoving it up her anus. Because "breaking up with someone is very painful." Caught in the middle of the assassination plot are some transvestite hookers, a drunk detective, and Liza Minnelli.
