BEST SELLING AUTHOR CHARLOTTE HUGHES TEAMS UP WITH PLATINUM HIP HOP RECORDING ARTIST PETEY PABLO FOR NUTCASE, THE SONG

(Atlanta based book NUTCASE inspires collaborative effort by southern hip hop artists JD Hawg, TR Flow and Petey Pablo)

Charleston, SC – (Feb 20th, 2009)- Perhaps the most unlikely collaboration of the year has just surfaced, as best selling author Charlotte Hughes announced today that her book NUTCASE (Jove, March 2009) has inspired a rap song of the same title written and produced by Petey Pablo, recording with JD Hawg and T.R. Flow. The teaming up of a New York Times best selling author with a Platinum selling hip hop recording artist is a novel concept.

The pairing of rap music and romantic comedy may seem an unlikely mix, but NUTCASE the book strikes a universal theme, with its zany plot filled with madcap and mayhem. Ms. Hughes, whose FULL series coauthored with Janet Evanovich established her as a best selling author, writes with a distinctive southern voice. The three hip hop artists also bring a southern flavor to their records, with Pablo having North Carolina roots and Hawg and Flow hailing from South Carolina.

While the publishing and recording industries are playing defense in hard economic times, Ms. Hughes and the three rappers have created some buzz with their bold moves to reach out to each other’s natural markets. JD Hawg and TR Flow initiated the project when they discovered Ms. Hughes’ critically acclaimed book, which is steeped in crazy humor. Petey Pablo learned of the project from Hawg, a protégé who had toured with Pablo in Europe. Hawg and Flow decided to feature Pablo, who wrote and recorded the hook for the song, and produced the record in time for the novel’s March release.

Petey Pablo was best known for his Timbaland produced anthem “Raise Up” and he was featured in the film DRUMLINE, shot in Atlanta. T. R. Flow and JD Hawg, who record for Indie label Pathfindaz, came together for the first time on “Baby Mama Real,” and recently recorded an album as a duo called Da Product. T.R. Flow and JD Hawg can also be seen as regulars on the Charleston, S.C. television show SHOP TALK.

NUTCASE is a Romantic Suspense about Atlanta psychologist Kate Holly. Dr. Holly has to deal with an arsonist, an office that she is being evicted from after an explosion, and the crazy antics of her patients, friends and family. Ms. Hughes explained that Kate discovers the life of a psychologist is enough to drive anyone nuts. “Everybody knows at least one nutcase,” she noted. “That would be me,” quipped Flow.

It’s no secret that award-winning author Charlotte Hughes “delivers an entertaining and fast-paced murder mystery,” (Publishers Weekly), and it’s been said that Charlotte Hughes has “a gift for capturing the essence of southern life, while keeping suspense lovers glued to the page” (Romantic Times).

Charlotte Hughes, who mostly writes romantic comedy and mysteries, is launching NUTCASE with a book tour and a virtual (web based) tour called VIRTUALLY NUTS. Hawg and Flow plan to appear at some events, and Hughes will be making downloads of the song available for her fans. The book NUTCASE is the second and stand alone book in a series that is in discussion for a possible TV series. Readers can learn more about the NUTCASE music project at the Group Therapy blog on her website at www.readcharlottehughes.com.
