Stay classy SD. Your alternative music station 91X just announced the line-up for their Wrex The Halls festival. For $39 this December 13th could be an evening with AFI, Rise Against, 30 Seconds To Mars, Anberlin, and Paper Tougues.
The Bay Area's winter alternative music festival, Not So Slient Night, just announced the line-up for 2009. 'Greatest live band in the world' Muse is headlining with local boys AFI right below, and 30 Seconds To Mars, Vampire Weekend, and Metric following.
Here's the line to the free MySpace 'Secret Show' featuring Weezer and Natalie Portman's Shaved Head last night in San Francisco. Oh wait I mean here's the line four hours before the doors were to open. I didn't even make it to the end of the line. Too many blocks.
And here's the trailer for their new video 'I Want You To':
MGMT headlined day one of the Treasure Island Music Festival with a set containing every song from their debut album and four new tracks. They played in front of a backdrop of live light projections and silhouettes made by a crew of performers off stage.
The music festival, thrown on the scenic island in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, also hosted electronic artists Girl Talk, Dan Deacon, MSTRKRFT and local boys The Limousines on the sold-out opening day. Just of the comments overheard from mesmerized attendees: "MGMT is one of the greatest bands of our time," and "holy crap, just when you think you've seen every type of Girl Talk performances...FIREWORKS!! Amazing Treasure Island show and MGMT was awesome."
Here's MGMT opening their set with Time To Pretend:
"They said they were gonna get us and we said there was no way they are gonna get us. Sure enough they got us." Those are the famous last words of Asher Roth on his last night on the road with Blink-182. Asher and his crew got punked pretty ridiculously by Blink as they were wrapping up their final set. I think you can say it 'went down before you could Blink.' Just can never plan enough for some things.
But be careful folks. This prank is the gift that keeps on giving. Just when you think the worst is over, well, nope. The hilarity has only begun!
The Pogues are currently touring around the West Coast. Tonight (10/14) the Scottish punks are playing in SF, before moving down the Pacific Highway for a couple shows in Southern California.
Here's Shane and crew getting through a rendition of The Irish Rover on the night they kicked off the tour - Oct. 10 in Seattle.
Slash is bringing his friends to come party with you. Those friends happen to be Ozzy Osbourne, Travis Barker, Andrew Stockdale (Wolfmother), Billy Idol, Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell & DaveNavarro's pierced nipples. I think the rest of Dave will be there to. The party happens to be a concert and the concert happens to be a benefit that raises some cash for an organization who, as Slash puts it, "gets homeless kids off the street." Very noble goal. Part of your ticket cost (about $75) will go to The Los Angeles Youth Network. This organization provides food, shelter, counseling, and guidance to kids who have been abused, thrown-out on the street, or abandoned.
Oh yeah and there's one more thing Slash wanted me to remind you: "The entire event will be hosted by the inimitable George fuckin' Lopez." Tickets are here.
As a tribute to a state that served as an inspiration for their new album, Vampire Weekend has announced a string of shows in small towns across California. The East Coasters will be playing in venues like Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown, Chencho's in Bakersfield, The VFW Hall in Lomita, and the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. I've California my whole life and never even heard of half these towns. Here's the tour schedule:
Pepper's breaking out the camo for their Back In The Trenches Tour. They're wearing shoes and everything. The guys just posted a bunch of pictures from the West Beach Festival in Santa Barbara to their MySpace. Check 'em out... alllllrigggght.
The East Bay's AFI tonight played a club show at The Roxy Theatre in Hollywood. Just a few of the comments from Nic Adler and his Roxy Staff: "Davey Havok just crowd surfed...standing up. Such a rockstar!"
Check out the photos on Twitter using the tag #AFIroxy. There's some sick ones from the lucky few who made it inside tonight.
