"17 fucking years… it will be worth the money," proclaimed John Lydon as his Public Image Ltd took the stage for the first time in nearly two decades. The kick off show in Birmingham is one of seven shows that PiL is scheduled to play across the U.K. The band's return has supposedly been financed with money from a row of Country Life butter commercials the former Sex Pistol shot over the last year. When Lydon was confronted with the standard 'selling out' question he responded with "The money I got from that advert is the advance on [Public Image]." "Why are they questioning me? What manual am I supposed to adopt? I'm promoting a British product which I'm very proud of. Anything I can do to help British industry is fine by me and in return you've got PiL."
